Tour Description
One of the most scenic parts of the country, the Danube Bend is where the Danube River is forced between the mountains to turn sharply to the south.
Visit Esztergom, Hungary's first capital city with the largest Roman Catholic Church in Hungary.
There are beautiful towns throughout this area, most notably Visegrad. Continue to Visegrad, to this ancient settlement inhabited already by the Romans, with a medieval castle on top of the Visegrad hill built in the 13th century above the river and offering stunning views of the scenery. During the reign of the great renaissance ruler Matthias Corvinus in the 15th century, the royal palace was built here and became home to the royal court. Original fountains and sculptures are preserved in the 13th century Solomon Tower, one of the oldest and most intact Romanesque towers of Central Europe. Medieval Battle scenes are still reenacted in the yard of the tower. Enjoy the great panoramic view with one of the most beautiful landscapes of our country.
Afterwards, visit Szentendre, a charming town with a Mediterranean atmosphere.
Everything here serves the visitor who is looking for nostalgia: restaurants, shops, trade signs, the ancient buildings of the Main Square, the house ornaments, the many subjects offering themselves to the photographer, seven church steeples, colorful houses, cobble-stoned streets, narrow alleys and almost 40 galleries and museums make Szentendre one of the most visited centers on the Danube Bend. Here you can visit the sculpture museum of Margit Kovacs or the Marzipan Museum.
Spend the afternoon at leisure with strolling and shopping Hungarian embroideries and other traditional handy crafts.
